Recruitment Announcement for 2 Dean Positions of Jilin University
Jilin University (JLU), located in Changchun, Jilin Province, is a state key comprehensive university directly under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education of China. It was established in 1946, listed as a key national university in 1960, and became one of the first 22 universities in China authorized to provide graduate programs, it is among first batch of universities in China sponsored by “211 Project” and “985 Project”.
JLU invites nominations and applications for the positions of Dean of the College of Material Science and Engineering and the Dean of the College of Construction Engineering.
The deans are expected to (a) abide by the constitution and laws of the People’s Republic of China, be devoted to the cause of higher education of China, have good conduct and professional ethics, be widely recognized with academic achievements and enjoy a high academic reputation; (b)understand the nature of higher education, have rich administrative experiences and strong capacity to organize and coordinate;(c) be able to provide leadership in promoting academic and educational excellence of the college, as well as its sustainable development. Previous experiences on key management position(s) in the institutions or labs in related areas both home and abroad are preferred; (d) work full time.
The candidates for the Dean of the College of Material Science and Engineering should have an academic background in material science and engineering. The candidates for the Dean of the College of Construction Engineering should have an academic background in geological engineering, or civil engineering, or petroleum engineering.
Chinese candidates should be no more than 52 years old, and have a title of full professor. Academicians, 1,000 Talent Plan and/or 10,000 Talent Plan experts, Cheung Kong Scholars Programme professors, winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars are preferred.
Non-Chinese candidates should be no more than 55 years old, with tenured professorship (or the equivalent) in a reputable university or scientific institution.
All candidates should be in good health and capable of performing due duties once selected.

Duration of Service and Remuneration
The first employment term is 5 years, including 1 year probation period. The remuneration will be very competititvie and commensurate with academic excellence and experience.

An Introduction of College of Construction Engineering (CCE), Jilin University, China
The College of Construction Engineering (CCE) consists of 7 departments and 8 research institutes, with 141 teaching and administrative staff, among which there are 1 academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, 1 distinguished professor of “Thousand Talent Program”, 16 doctoral advisors, 32 full professors, 32 associate professors, and 30 adjunct professors. There are 2,209 students of all levels.
The discipline of geological resources and geological engineering of CCE is a first-class national key discipline, the discipline of geological engineering is a subordinate national key discipline; there is 1 postdoctoral program, 2 doctoral programs, 5 master programs; and there are 2 provincial key disciplines, 2 undergraduate disciplines of geological engineering and civil engineering. The talent teams is composed of many well-known professors both at home and abroad include academicians from the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Chinese Academy of Engineering.
In terms of research platforms, CCE has currently 1 national & local united engineering laboratory, 3 ministerial key laboratories and 1 provincial engineering laboratory, i.e. the National & Local United Engineering Lab of Underground In-situ Conversion and Drilling Technology for Oil Shale, the Key Lab of the Drilling and Exploitation Technology in Complicated Condition of the Ministry of Land and Resources, the Engineering Research Center of Geothermal Resources Development of the Ministry of Education, the Key Lab of the Earth Information Detecting Instrument of the Ministry of Education, and the Engineering Lab of Geotechnical Engineering Environment of Jilin Province. Besides, the college contains three university grade research centers.
In scientific research, CCE has undertaken and completed more than 200 various research projects from the national “863” Program, national Natural Science Foundation, Ministry of Land & Resources, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Finance, Jilin province, Chinese Geological Survey Bureau and so on in recent years.
CCE has established long-term cooperation relationship in scientific research, academic communication and personnel training with more than 20 universities and research institution in Russia, the United States , the United Kingdom, Ukraine, Japan , Korea, Australia, Canada, France, Germany, Austria and other countries and regions.
An Introduction of College of Material Science and Engineering, Jilin University, China
College of Material Science and Engineering of Jilin University is composed of five departments and four research institutes. They are Department of Material Science, Department of Metal Material and Engineering, Department of Macromolecular Material and Engineering, Department of Inorganic Material and Engineering, and Department of Material Processing Engineering, Institute of Materials Science, Institute of Macromolecular Materials, Institute of Non-metal Mineral and Application as well as Institute of Fuel Battery. Besides, based on the college are the Key Laboratory of Automobile Materials of the Ministry of Education of China, the Laboratory for Principle and Application of Function Mineral Materials and Measuring Methods of the Corresponding Physical and Chemical Properties as well as the Automobile Materials Research Center of Jilin Province. The college offers programs leading to the B. Eng., M. Eng., and Ph.D. degrees, and more than 10 post-doctor positions are available in the college every year. There are three Cheung Kong Scholars positions for "Physics and Chemistry of Material", "Material Science" and "Material Processing Engineering". The college emphasizes the combination of material science and material engineering. Furthermore, the college ranked the top 1% during 2004-2014 and then the top 1‰ in 2014 among the leading research institutes in the world.
In the college, there are now 69 full professors and 45 associated professors. Among them, Prof. Song Yuquan is the Academician of CAS, Prof. Li Yuanyuan is the Academician of CAE, Prof. Jiang Qing and Prof. Zheng Weitao are Cheung Kong Scholars; Prof. Lian Jiangshe, Prof. Jiang Qing and Prof. Zheng Weitao won have obtained the National Science Foundation for Distinguished Young Scientists.
In the latest five years, the college has undertaken more than 300 research projects with the funding of more than 100 million yuan. Numerous achievements have been made in the fields of nanomaterials, polymer, inorganic materials, automobile engineering materials, film growth, and super-plasticity, major research programs including (1) mold-free shaping technique, (2) non-equilibrium solidification, (3) fundamental studies of nano-phase change, (4) film growth, (5) electrodes for energy storage(6) welding and connection for advanced materials (7) advanced ultra-high plastic magnesium alloy, (8) high strength and toughness cast aluminum alloy, and (9) new cast hot-work die steel. So far, the college has won more than 50 awards including the National Award for Science and Technology Progress, National Award for Technological Invention, etc. and published more than 1800 SCI papers since 2000.
